100 Years BPV
The Foreign Press Association of the Netherlands celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2025! This remarkable milestone honors a century of journalism and international connection.
We invite members and friends to join our special events.
We entered our 100th year of life with a thought-provoking debate, masterfully moderated by the wonderful Marcia Luyten and honored by the presence of His Majesty King Willem-Alexander.
The central question of the evening - What is the future of the foreign correspondent?- sparked rich reflections and moments of humor.
Our panel featured:
Saskia Dekkers (Nieuwsuur), Olaf Tempelman (De Volkskrant), Tim De Wit (Pauw & De Wit),
Isabel Ferrer (El País, Spain), Kasia van Rooijen (Juszczak) (Polish Radio, Poland), and Molly Quell (Associated Press, USA).
Many thanks to all who joined us, both on stage and in the audience, for making this centennial event so meaningful and memorable.
And that’s a wrap!
Many thanks to our partners: Nieuwspoort and Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid
100 guests for 100 years! Thank you for celebrating with us at the Rijksmuseum. What an unforgettable evening. 🍾 🎉
Huge thanks to the incredible Rijksmuseum team for making it all possible!
In 1925, a few good men came together in the Hague. They signed a document, which we can rightly call the birth certificate of the Foreign Press Association.
A few good women carried the association into 2025:
Imane Rachidi, Annette Birschel, Claudia Marcu, Maria Vasileiou, Britta Behrendt

“…on various occasions of important and international nature in this country, the foreign press was completely shut down without it being possible to say that such negation was deliberate”.
With these words, on November 14th, 1925 W.N.J van Ditmar explained the need of an association of the foreign press in the Netherlands. Ditmar, London Times correspondent, became the first president of the new entity. Today we celebrate 99 years since that crucial moment. We will make our history known to the world in the months to come. A year from now we will be proud to say:
We are still here after 100 years! The Foreign Press Association of the Netherlands now enters its jubilee year.
This is how our jubilee year started: with beautiful smiling faces! We spent a wonderful afternoon with many friends of the Foreign Press Association.
Thank you, Mauritshuis - Martine Gosselink and Boris de Munnick- for being wonderful hosts! The 100-year celebration is getting closer and closer!
