Trip to Wageningen – 22nd November 2013
How to feed 9-10 billion people in 2050? We have to do this with a doubling of production and much less resources compared to 2013. This is a challenge of extreme importance that we have to answer today. ‘Responsible growth’ seems to be the answer. Wageningen UR (University & Research centre) showed the international press that is ready for its contribution to this challenge. Wageningen UR is an international key player in healthy food and living environment and worldwide ranked 1st in the domain agriculture & forestry.
First stop was at the Greenhouse Horticulture Bleiswijk, where we saw the last developments on highly innovative, climate neutral and economically profitable cultivation of vegetables. A meeting with CEO of Wageningen UR, Dr. Aalt Dijkhuizen and some top researchers followed, before another stop, this time at Technotron: biorefinery – sustainable biomass conversion to food, materials, chemicals and fuels.
