BPV members met with ICTY and MICT prosecutor Serge Brammertz Thursday October 5 for lunch in The Hague. He spoke about the upcoming verdict in the trial of former Bosnian Serb military leader Ratko Mladic. The landmark case will be the ICTY’s latest before it closes its doors in December.
The prosecutor stressed the important legacy of the Yugoslav court in establishing jurisprudence linking sexual violence to conflict and ensure sex crimes are no longer seen as collateral damage.
Besides the tribunal’s past Brammertz also looked forward to the future and his plans as MICT prosecutors to step up efforts to go after the remaining MICT fugitives from the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR).
